What is a Power Purchase Agreement?

A power purchase agreement (PPA), is a long-term agreement between two parties, one generates solar electricity (PPA Direct) and one which is looking to buy electricity at reduced rates. (Your Business).

Renewable energy technology has come in leaps and bounds in recent years. With advances of technology, there is probably no less than 50 solar suppliers bidding for your business today, and you are probably getting a call every day from a prospective supplier.

The typical offer is that you as the business owner will have to buy the system or be on a lease plan that requires you to pay for the system for over 7-8 years. After which, the system’s maintenance is for you to worry about, or you have to pay an ongoing maintenance fee to ensure the solar system is in good working order. For many business owners, outlaying the capital or pay via lease plan is simply not an option, as their precious capital is better invested in other initiatives driving sales.

What if there is a supplier out there that does not require you to pay for the system, where they will deliver a turn-key solution, including permits and approvals, design, install and they maintain the system at their cost for 20 years? Your electricity costs are then known to you for 20 years, with no painful year on year negotiations? Furthermore, this supplier only gets paid when the solar system installed is generating electricity for your store’s use? Finally, the system that is insured and guaranteed to work for 25 years, is gifted to you after 20 years. Sounds too good to be true? Well, there is such a supplier.
